Year-Round Events in Woodstock, Vermont: Markets, Festivals, and Family Fun

Throughout the year, Woodstock, Vermont hosts a wide variety of events, from lively markets to serene nature celebrations, drawing both locals and visitors. No matter what time of year you visit, there’s bound to be something going on that you’ll be interested in. It’s also an incredible place to host your own occasion!

Here are just a few reasons why you’ll want to visit this beautiful Vermont town.

Market on the Green: Wednesdays from June to October

From June through October, the historic Green in the heart of Woodstock transforms into a bustling market every Wednesday. Market on the Green is a celebration of local artisans, farmers, and small businesses. More than 30 vendors set up shop, offering a range of goods, including artisanal cheese, fresh vegetables, prepared foods, handmade crafts, and ice cream. Visitors can also find freshly baked bread, meats, and pottery.

The atmosphere is enhanced with live music and children’s activities, creating a vibrant, family-friendly environment.

Taste of Woodstock: Every Summer

During the summer months, Woodstock also plays host to Taste of Woodstock, an event that celebrates the town’s impressive culinary scene. Restaurants from Woodstock and the surrounding areas come together to offer “tastes” of their best dishes, showcasing local ingredients and creative cuisine.

This event is not just a food festival but also a friendly competition. Participants vie for awards in various categories, making it an exciting culinary experience for attendees.

Whether you’re a food lover or just looking to enjoy the social scene, the Taste of Woodstock offers a relaxed atmosphere filled with delicious bites, live music, and an engaging community vibe. It’s an excellent way to sample a broad array of flavors, from classic New England fare to innovative dishes created by local chefs.

Vermont Mountain Bike Festival: July

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Vermont Mountain Bike Festival in July is an annual highlight. Mountain bikers from across the region converge in Woodstock to celebrate their passion for biking.

Organized by the Vermont Mountain Bike Association, the event includes rides for all levels—from beginner trails to challenging, adrenaline-pumping routes. The festival isn’t just for hardcore bikers: It also offers family-friendly options like pump track sessions for kids and shorter, scenic rides. The camaraderie extends beyond the trails with après-bike gatherings, where participants share stories of their biking adventures.

Quechee Hot Air Balloon, Craft and Music Festival: June

Located just a short drive from Woodstock, the Quechee Hot Air Balloon, Craft and Music Festival is another iconic event in the region. Taking place in June, it is the longest-running hot air balloon festival in New England. As colorful balloons rise into the skies over Vermont and New Hampshire, visitors can listen to live music and peruse artisan crafts.

The festival is a visual feast as balloons of all shapes and sizes fill the sky at sunrise and sunset. On the ground, attendees can also watch skydivers and magicians, performing dogs and dancers, making it a perfect summer outing.

Events at Billings Farm & Museum: Year-Round

Billings Farm & Museum is a living history museum that hosts events throughout the year, showcasing Vermont’s agricultural traditions. One of the springtime highlights is the Baby Farm Animal Celebration, where visitors can meet adorable newborn farm animals like calves, piglets, and turkey poults.

In August, the Sunflower House blooms. Covering 20,000 square feet, the sunflower field is designed with winding paths that create “rooms” and “hallways” made entirely of sunflower stalks. This beautiful display is a must-see for nature lovers and families alike.

In the fall, the Harvest Celebration brings the farm to life with activities like barn dancing, pumpkin bowling, live music, and a variety of harvest-related crafts and games. The crisp fall air and seasonal activities make it a joyful celebration of the changing seasons.

During February, the farm hosts the Magic of Maple event. Visitors can learn about Vermont’s maple syrup traditions, from tree tapping to sugaring and processing. With historical exhibits, hands-on demonstrations, and sweet samples of “sugar on snow,” it’s a perfect winter activity to learn about one of Vermont’s most cherished products.
