Things to Do in Woodstock, Vermont on Your Wedding Weekend

The Jackson in Woodstock, Vermont: Your Perfect Wedding Destination

Perhaps the only thing more breathtaking than the Vermont countryside is a wedding at The Jackson. Imagine a clear blue sky above, the shade of our majestic sugar maples, and your guests gathered in the beauty of our seasonal garden. With every detail perfectly in place, your wedding day will be nothing short of magical.

Engaged couples looking for wedding venues choose The Jackson for its charm and beauty. They also know that there’s plenty to delight their guests in Woodstock, Vermont. Here are some things your wedding party, family and friends can do.

Cloudland Farm

After your guests have arrived at The Jackson and checked in using our modern check-in process, it’s time to head off for a culinary experience like none other at Cloudland Farm. The restaurant is by reservation, so be sure to get a table reserved for you and your guests well ahead of time. It’s also available for private events, so if your wedding party is large enough, you can arrange to have the entire place to yourself.

Cloudland Farm is a working farm as well as a farm-to-table restaurant, located about 15 minutes outside of Woodstock. From its wraparound porch, you can see the forest running into the mountains, and above the mountains are the clouds that give the farm its name; a pastoral palette of green and white.

All ingredients are sourced locally, with the vast bulk grown at Cloudland. The menu changes weekly as different items are harvested. The restaurant has an herb garden, where they grow their own sage, rosemary, tarragon, and other herbs used in their cooking.

The menu may change, but what does not is the ingenuity of head chef Mike Borraccio and the deliciousness of the meals. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but you are welcome to bring wine or beer if you like for a small corkage fee. Tours of the farm and restaurant can also be arranged.

Shopping and Recreation

Whatever the mood of your party, there is something to satisfy in the hours leading up to the anticipated nuptials. For the golfers in the group, there is the Woodstock Country Club, less than a ten-minute drive away. The Robert Trent Jones designed course is one of the five best in the state for its challenging layout and amazing views of the Vermont landscape. Tee times need to be booked a week in advance, as the course is very popular.

If wedding guests are partial to shopping, there is much to like about the area. There are several antique shops in Woodstock Village, as well as The Yankee Bookstore, a Central Street institution since 1935, located just five minutes from The Jackson. You’ll also find a fine wine shop, as well as several artisans designing and selling pottery items, such as Farmhouse Pottery. The hive of local clothing stores, such as 37 Central Clothiers, will be a shopping destination for the fashionistas in your wedding party.

For those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, Mount Tom offers scenic hiking trails and a spectacular view of Woodstock and the surrounding countryside from 600 feet above the town. Wedding guests can rent bikes to explore the area or visit Kedron Valley Stables, for a relaxing trail ride on horseback. There are also several driving tours guests can indulge in, enjoying the area resplendent with hills and valleys, and dotted with farms and picturesque villages.

Everyone can regroup after their adventures at the Mon Vert Cafe, located on Central street. The rustic spot features locally sourced country food along with strong, artisanal coffee. It features an array of sandwiches, along with fun dishes like the Yankee quesadilla and Popeye the fungi.

For breakfast on the morning after the wedding and reception, you can gather at the South Woodstock Country Store and Cafe. Your guests can shop for special souvenirs to commemorate your celebrations.

There is nothing more special than a Vermont wedding, where the only thing that shines brighter than the scenery is the exchange of vows. We would be delighted to host your big day at The Jackson, where you can take advantage of our beautiful seasonal garden and gorgeous freshwater pond for wonderful pictures.
